CPR classes in Broad Ripple

Broad Ripple and the surrounding north side neighborhoods book a different kind of class: smaller homes, tighter friend groups, and a lot of first time parents who want the skill without the certificate.

Pam Goldsberry, RN, teaches in home infant and child CPR parties and American Heart Association certification classes throughout Broad Ripple. A CPR party is $595 for up to ten guests, takes about two hours, and is taught on your own floor. Broad Ripple is about 15 minutes from her base on Fall Creek Road, and there is no travel surcharge anywhere in the service area.

Small spaces are not a problem

A recurring worry on the north side is space, because the housing stock is older and rooms are smaller. It genuinely does not matter. The class needs floor space for people to kneel, not a great room. Pam has taught ten people in a bungalow living room more than once.

Friend groups rather than family

Broad Ripple parties skew toward friend circles rather than extended family, often people who met through a birth class, a running group or work. That changes nothing about the curriculum and quite a lot about the atmosphere.

Nannies and caregivers

The north side has a high share of households using regular childcare help. If someone else has your child for many hours a week, they belong in the room. A seat costs nothing extra because the price covers the party, not the head count.

Which class do Broad Ripple families usually book?

If nobody needs a certification card, the CPR party is almost always the answer, because $595 covers up to ten people rather than one. If someone needs documentation for a job, a school district or a licensing board, that is Heartsaver for non clinical roles or BLS for healthcare workers. Every option and price sits on the classes page.

Is a bystander protected if they step in?

Yes. That is what the Indiana Good Samaritan law exists for: it protects a person who acts in good faith during an emergency, and it is the second question Pam gets in almost every class. The practical version, including when to stop and what to tell the dispatcher, is covered in can you be sued for doing CPR in Indiana.

Who teaches it

Pam is a registered nurse with more than twenty five years of experience, most of it in labor and delivery, and she is certified as an instructor through both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. She has resuscitated newborns in a delivery room and performed CPR on a stranger outside a hospital. That background is why the class does not feel like a slideshow. More about Pam.

It happens in the room you are standing in.

Almost every emergency a Broad Ripple parent will ever face happens somewhere ordinary. On a rug, in a high chair, at the side of a bath. Learning the skill in the same kind of room where you would have to use it does something a conference table cannot.

Straight answers

Broad Ripple questions

Our living room is small. Is that a problem?

No. Floor space to kneel is all that is needed. Pam has taught a full group in a bungalow living room.

Can our nanny attend?

Yes, and she should. Anyone who is ever alone with your child belongs in the class, and extra guests do not cost more up to ten.

Broad Ripple families book her for the same reason.

Nobody plans to need this. The people who have it are the ones who booked an ordinary evening months before anything happened.
